On Friday, November 21, Wakii volunteered at the Hogar de Nazaret Foundation. Team members arrived at 8:30 a.m., toured the facilities, and met with the teams that provide security and care for the elderly at the home, which serves people between the ages of 60 and 103.

The Wakii team had the opportunity to meet the Hogar de Nazaret team, including: the nurses, the cooks, and a community volunteer who has been accompanying the foundation for more than ten years. Wakii also met five sisters who are part of the home.

The Wakii staff played bingo, laughed and chatted with those living at the home. Company is something that many elderly miss, as it can be hard to find the volunteers to spend time, provide these kinds of activities and to just talk. Rosita, for example, engaged our volunteers in a deep conversations with about faith. 

In addition to contributions from a food bank, the foundation also supports itself with a flea market that they organize on weekends, where they sell new and second-hand clothing in good condition that are donated by the community. Each garment becomes a direct financial support to cover the home’s basic needs.
